Suede, gold, platinum, enamel, mother-of-pearl, emeralds, and diamonds

First established in Paris in 1847, Cartier has always been revered for its expertly crafted luxury products. During the 1920s the jeweller and watchmaker made refined and precious cylindrical vanity and cigarette cases. This rare surviving example was possibly the most highly priced handbag of the period; its hardware includes precious metals, emeralds and diamonds. The interior is lined with silk printed with a paisley design.
