Clutch, Drew & Sons Ltd, British, 1920–29

Leather and chrome

The sleek lines of women’s dress during the 1920s were echoed in fashionable accessories. Tight fitting cloche hats required a complementary handbag. The clutch, or ‘underarm’ bag, was a flat rectangular bag without a handle. A strap was often added at the back by 1920 so that the bag could be more easily carried with one hand. The leather of this bag was made to resemble wood.
